This new work has evolved from a deep connection and joy Vivienne has with the beach in which she swims daily. A show that reflects relationships in communities, and the natural world.
BUOYED

The ceramic vessels are informed by the coastal environment - rust encrusted surfaces of large brightly painted navigation buoys and stones weathered and shaped by the sea.

Vivienne Yankah is in an article, written by the novelist, Maggie Gee, for the Sunday Times, about her move from London to Ramsgate. She wrote about the joys of living in this corner of Kent and of the creativity both historically and now that exist in Thanet. A glowing review of Vivienne’s work.

To celebrate her pop-up, we've spoken to Viv about her practice and are offering a curated range of her tea-light holders and oil-burners to purchase online. Surface Tension
Tuesday, 23 - 30 January , 2018, Fishslab Gallery, Whistable.
A joint exhibition of ceramics, textiles and photographs by Viv Yankah and Rachael Dickens. Inspired by coast and sea.
Viv Yankah's ceramic vessels are inspired by the ancient salt and rust encrusted surfaces of large brightly painted navigation buoys. This work sits alongside Rachael Dicken's textiles created using materials found entirely on the beach. Sea-washed tattered textiles, corroded and oxidised metals and ragged crumbling plastics. Both artists explore the aesthetic of the impermanent, the way a material begins to take on the qualities of it's environment and the changes that surfaces exhibit over time.
Private view - Friday 26 January 6 -9 pm
LEGACY
